Parkview Methodist Church is an independent Methodist Church not affiliated with the United Methodist Church. We try to keep to the traditions of Charles Wesley
Charles Wesley (1707–1788) was an English clergyman, poet, and hymn writer. With his elder brother John, Charles began the Methodist movement in the Church of England.
A spiritual awakening led him to start the Holy Club with other undergraduates. His brother John later joined, and they became known as Methodists for their methodical devotion and study. In 1735, Charles took holy orders to assist his brother in a mission to the Georgia colony in North America. After finding spiritual peace with the help of the Moravians, he became an eloquent preacher and translated the gospel message into hymns, which became important for evangelism.
He published over 4,500 hymns, including “Hark, the Herald Angels Sing,” and “Love Divine, All Loves Excelling”.
